Nutritionally assisted detox
Supportive nutritional supplementation is recommended for the removal of toxins from the body. Treatment includes essential fatty acids, antioxidants, niacin, fiber, enzymes, electrolytes and probiotics. One key element in nutritionally assisted detox is nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). NAD is turned into vitamin B3 when it enters the body and is used to stimulate cells into higher activity and speed up the brain restoration process. NAD therapy involves a drug-free intravenous drip of these nutritional substances applied over 10 to 14 days, providing the person in recovery with a rapid and effective form of detox.
The San Clemente location treats all forms of substance abuse through many different modalities such as medication management, nutritionally assisted detoxification and psychotherapy approaches.
Formally referred to as co-occurring disorders, this diagnosis is made when an individual has at least one mental health disorder and a co-occurring substance use disorder. Dual diagnosis treatment programs are aimed at treating each disorder separately but simultaneously. Often an individual will be diagnosed with depression and will have an underlying disorder such as alcoholism, which was the trigger for the depression. Treatment approaches are similar to those used for the mental health program and the substance abuse program.
Neurofeedback training (NFT) is a method of training the brain to self-regulate by providing audiovisual feedback based on brain wave activity. NFT allows the brain to see and hear its own activity in real time. The brain naturally learns to modulate input and output, resulting in the development of new neural pathways, or neuroplasticity. The mechanism on which NFT acts is called neuroplasticity, which refers to the ongoing structural and functional changes neurons undergo to develop, survive, learn and adapt to changes over time. In other words, the brain is constantly changing itself to maximize energy efficiency.
Sovereign Health uses a program called Neurobic as part of its cognitive retraining. This application is offered to our mental health patients, our substance abuse patients and patients with co-occurring conditions. The goal in using cognitive remediation is to help patients retrain their brains to foster positive and constructive thinking patterns. Cognitive remediation therapy can counteract previously destructive thinking or behavioral patterns, substance abuse, or a mental health disorder.
Treatment at Sovereign Health’s eating disorder treatment program will empower patients to turn self-hatred into self-love, self-harm into self-care, and self-destruction into self-acceptance. We will work to reverse disordered thoughts and behaviors regarding food and body image. Through individual and group therapy, we will arm eating disorder patients with alternative coping mechanisms. This program treats anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder.
