Sovereign Health of Rancho San Diego, California
Located in the San Diego area of Southern California, Sovereign Health of Rancho San Diego treats adolescents who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and/or a substance use disorder. A leading rehab for teens in the San Diego area, this facility is one of the two Sovereign locations that also specialize in treatment for eating disorders.
The Rancho San Diego adolescent facility is placed between two mountain ranges, giving it a climate full of sun and warmth for most of the year, making it the perfect place for adolescent patients to recover in a tranquil, rural setting. The facility is located in a ranch-style setting, with greenbelts and trees surrounding the property.
Our programs are open to males and females from ages 12 to 17, and the average length of stay is 30 to 90 days. The facility offers four residential cabins with 14 beds per cabin. Housing for adolescents is in gender-separate dorms, which are under 24/7 supervision by our well-trained and qualified staff, for our patients’ protection.
Accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed by the California Department of Social Services, Sovereign Health of Rancho San Diego has served the community since June of 2014. This adolescent facility provides mental health, substance abuse and dual diagnosis treatment programs, in addition to an eating disorder program and trauma-informed care. The facility also offers neurofeedback and transgender support.
Levels of care
Sovereign Health of Rancho San Diego offers residential treatment center (RTC), partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP) levels of care.
Our RTC level of care is designed for patients who are not capable of living independently and require around-the-clock in-house care. It is similar to hospitalization for medical patients who cannot be treated on an outpatient basis.
Our PHP level of care is a combination of inpatient and outpatient care and can be used to treat patients who do not require around-the-clock monitoring but still need more care than patients receiving outpatient treatment.
Our IOP is the least intense level of care we offer and allows patients to be treated on an outpatient basis. It is similar to being treated for a chronic medical disease by a primary care physician on a checkup basis.
Our adolescent facility offers educational accommodations, so young patients do not fall behind in school. An independent study program works with individual schools upon admission, offering 7.5 hours of instruction per week as well as GED preparation. Additionally, intensive family therapy is offered one to two times per week.
Process groups, equine therapy, art therapy, stress management, nutrition, mindfulness and emotional regulation are all offered to enrolled adolescents at Sovereign Health of Rancho San Diego, in addition to cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, medication management and many other therapeutic modalities. We customize a treatment plan for each adolescent after a thorough medical, psychosocial and psychiatric assessment.
Eating disorder program
Sovereign Health is committed to the education about and treatment of eating disorders. Our Rancho San Diego eating disorder treatment programs serve adolescent females ages 12 to 17. The eating disorders program specializes in the treatment of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, providing both inpatient and outpatient services for adolescent females. The program offers each patient an individualized plan, encompassing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Patients also participate in individual, family and group therapy sessions, nutrition and body-image therapy, and experiential treatments, such as yoga and equine therapy. This program opened at the Rancho San Diego facility in March of 2016.
Eating disorders affect up to 1 percent of women worldwide and have the highest death rate of all mental disorders. With the proper treatment, counseling and lifestyle changes, recovery is possible. Research studies have reported a decrease in cognitive functioning for individuals with eating disorders compared to individuals without an eating disorder. This research is used to inform our clinical team at Sovereign Health.
Treatment for all programs
All programs at Sovereign Health of Rancho San Diego include cognitive rehabilitation sessions, which aim at strengthening cognitive deficits over time. Cognitive remediation exercises may improve brain function and are thus an important part of treatment.
